Edward Wohl's custom designs are created from a variety of solid hardwoods, including bird's-eye maple, black cherry, white oak and walnut. (Matching veneers may be used in drawer bottoms and cabinet backs.) In each piece, the wood has been chosen for its dramatic figuring or attractive grain, enhanced by a clear, hand-rubbed finish. No stains are used.
Our creations are noted for their graceful proportions, flowing lines, seamless joinery and silky smoothness even in the hidden parts you'll never see or touch.
Most of the pieces displayed here were created in response to an individual customer's request, so the actual items shown are not available for purchase. If you see something you like, please feel free to contact us to discuss such particulars as choice of wood, dimensional requirements and delivery schedule.

Bird's Eye Maple Pedestal Table with Slat Chairs and Lazy Suzan - 2008
This customer from Sacramento, CA called me to discuss making a 20" lazy susan for her existing table. We had a long and friendly conversation which ended with me designing and making a model of a potential 60" round table. She subsequently ordered the table and lazy susan. The following summer she ordered six cherry slat dining chairs.
Bird's Eye Maple Pedestal Table Base - 2008
I designed this base by making a scale model. I had the image of a waiter holding up a round tray and the top structural members being the fingers.

Bubinga Hall Table - 1998
This hall table is made of the African wood, bubinga. The top is out of a spectacularly figured sample of the wood. I purchased this 15" wide board form an import wood dealer in New Jersey in 1976. As I was designing and building a hall table of white oak I remembered this long-stored piece of beautiful wood and made a second table top from that one board.

Curly Cherry Side Table - 1999
I had a commission to build a walnut side table to sit next to a customers Barca Lounger. The size was specific — 27" high, 24" wide, and 15" deep. I liked the proportions well enough to build a second table from some highly figured cherry that I had been saving, and that table is now in our living room.
Cherry Hall Table - 2007
This custom sofa table was designed and built for an acquaintance in Spring Green, WI. Little details like the continuous sculpted drawer handles added a lot of time to the construction.

Cherry Curved-Front Desk - 2011
This was probably the most complex piece of furniture I have ever designed and built. The customer, a very close friend, wanted an L-shaped desk to fit in a specific spot in her home office and studio. An L- shape was not an answer that either of us liked. On and off for a year I worked on sketches. Just when my friend and I were about to give up, I started sketching curves, producing the lovely, though extremely complicated design.
Cherry Curved-Face Desk - 2011
The drawers were all curved and the handles sculpted out of the thick wood that I started with. This required many complicated jigs and patterns to construct. It took many hours to make the jigs and then slowly remove small amounts of wood at a time to reach the final curve and shape. The end frame and panel is also curved.
Cherry Curved-Face Desk w/ Low-Back Slat Chair - 2011
The chair in the photograph is a version of my slat dining chair, however the chair my friend uses is a Herman Miller Aeron chair, designed by my close friend and mentor, Bill Stumpf.
Bird's Eye Maple Desk with Cabinets and Slat Chair - 2001
Designed and built for a customer in Denver, this desk was made to his specifications as to size, number of drawers, and two pull out shelves adding extra work space. The chair is an early version of my slat chair.
Maple Desk with Aluminum Legs - 2000
This desk was built to the exact specifications for a customer in Baltimore. The design was similar to other desk I have designed. The turned aluminum legs were the idea of the customer. They made building the desk interesting and challenging.

Bird's Eye Maple Desk with Stand-Alone Cabinets - 1996
